A search for a distant companion to the Sun with the Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer

This page documents how this source is reused across Claim by Claim. A source can support, challenge, qualify or contextualize different claims; appearing here does not imply endorsement of every linked proposition.

Evidence context

How this source is used

Evidence roles describe what this source helps establish inside each Investigation. They are local to that use, not permanent labels attached to the publication itself.

Investigation

Are NASA and astronomers hiding an approaching planet?

Challenges

WISE infrared data were used in a peer-reviewed all-sky search for massive distant companions with explicit null results and sensitivity limits.

A public null result is evidence against known detection of the classes of body the survey could see.

Investigation

Is Nibiru a real planet that repeatedly enters the inner Solar System?

Challenges

A WISE all-sky search found no distant solar companion down to sensitivity limits that excluded Saturn- and Jupiter-scale analogs over very large distance ranges.

This does not rule out a much smaller and more distant Planet Nine, but it strongly constrains giant hidden-companion variants.
