Evidence context

How this source is used

Evidence roles describe what this source helps establish inside each Investigation. They are local to that use, not permanent labels attached to the publication itself.

Investigation

Can iridology diagnose internal disease from iris patterns?

Challenges

A government-commissioned systematic evidence evaluation found that manual iridology did not accurately distinguish patients with several tested diseases from people without those diseases; the evidence was graded low certainty because the evidence base was small.

The review searched the literature systematically and included five studies totaling 1,197 participants. Its certainty rating limits how broadly the negative result should be generalized beyond the tested conditions.
